A much belated update

Apparently Bergen is the rainiest city in Europe. Luckily, it's only been the last couple of weeks that we've actually started seeing any rain so fingers crossed it will hold out a little longer this season.

A month ago I joined The Åsane Seahawks and have been training at Quarterback again! At the moment it's off season so we're just playing in an 8 man league with 4 or 5 other teams but it's a great team and seeing as I have a little experience I've been coaching the juniors as well. Our first game is next weekend and I'm going to work as an umpire in the other 2 games each weekend. Each game pays 500 Kr.!

On the job front I recently went to a large group interview for a job at Starbucks and got the job. Unfortunately they don't open until November though so will have to wait till then. The interview itself was crazy. They split us into groups to come up with and perform a 3 minute sketch selling a Caramel Frappucino, held memory tests flipping cards simultaneously with one-on-one interviews and gave a short presentation.

Kristoffer from the football team may have a job for me at his dad's ship maintenance company in November anyway so that seems to be the key month I'll hit full time work. The job with Kris pays about twice as much per hour as the others so I've got my fingers crossed for that to come through. In the meantime it's just umpiring games when I can and hopefully starting as a glassie this weekend at the Irish pub Finnegan's, conveniently located about 2 minutes from where we live :)

I also started writing for/taking pictures for Samviten, a local student magazine. No pay involved but it's a bit of a challenge and a pretty good crowd to hang out with. Hopefully I can contribute something. Both Marta and I volunteered one day at the Bergen Beer Festival last weekend, which paid in free beer and dinner so I took a couple of photos there as someone may be writing an article on that.

Marta is near to deciding which direction she will choose to go within her Reservoir Physics Masters and is attending classes already. Here's some photos of what we've been up to...

Sunset down the street from us.

Picnic with a one time grill. Unfortunately they don't do real sausages here at the supermarkets. Only hot dogs.

At the Red Bull Soap Box Derby. Super unsafe part of the course and I'm surprised they continued the event after this crash. Guy in white walked away and the other guy was lucky to only have a  concussion and break just one minor bone. They landed about a foot from the fence where I was standing. After the crash they moved the fence further away and put another bit of 2 x 4 up (though obviously they offer no real structure as a guard rail).

A walk down to the lake. Saw a massive fish jump three times in a row.

On another walk.
