Gato Heroi Daily Driver Review CA

Alright, I recently picked this up from Larry White in California. It's 9'5 x 21 x 3, is foiled super nice and is so fun to ride. Unfortunately because of conflicting travel styles I've only ridden it twice so this will be a first impressions review.

I was actually hoping the board would come out with super sharp rails (like my transitional era board) but I guess I needed to order a thinner overall board. Having never ordered a custom before it didn't occur to me that Larry wouldn't make a crazy dimension board as 9 times out of 10 the buyer would arrive, see their order and be very unhappy. At the same time I would never call these rails sharp (as per my order).

Nevertheless, the board still rides great, has that nice Gato flow from the middle so it's fun to high line before stepping back onto the tail and whipping around. Definitely a log I wouldn't want to go any wider or thicker due to the weight. The narrowness combined with the belly gives the board a unique side-slipping quality that reminds me of Dora. You can really feel it when riding parallel and even when paddling. Something else i noticed was the extra kick in the tail compared to my other longboards. Running up to the nose is like putting your foot on the accelerator :)

The fin you see in the board is the O fin. Haven't been on the board enough to give it a good review but it seems to work well and making sections is easy. I just picked up a Ryan Lovelace She-hull with a 9" Liddle design flex fin I wouldn't mind chucking in for a while but due to the following sob story I guess I won't get to.

We actually screwed up big time here and a day before packing the board for the freight guys to take to the east coast, Marta found out that Norwegian Airlines doesn't accept any luggage greater that 250cm! So I actually need an 8' board for this flight and future flights as I'm sure we'll be flying Norwegian again. I don't want to sell the board but I do want a Gato to ride rather than sit at my good friend Ian's house in Long Beach (though I'm sure he'd have a blast on it!).

$1,000 will make it yours. My email is dpagung@gmail.com. It's in perfect condition and even has the California Waterman's Guild sticker on it still. Waxed up and ready to go, I'd like to organise everything before pick up so as not to hassle Ian too much with the sale process.
